SMP Engineering

About

SMP Engineering is a leading electrical consulting firm with extensive experience in sustainable design, retrofit strategies, and high-performance building systems. We view environmental responsibility as a core commitment and work closely with owners, utilities, and contractors to deliver efficient, reliable, and resilient electrical solutions. For retrofit projects, our approach emphasizes technical accuracy, constructability, and long-term value. We leverage advanced modeling tools to confirm compliance prior to installation and ensure new systems integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure. Whether the project targets LEED®, Green Globes, Zero Carbon Building™, or other sustainability frameworks, SMP has the expertise to guide clients through certification requirements and demonstrate how electrical systems contribute to broader environmental goals.

Our retrofit methodology is built on a three-tier strategy aligned with the Zero Carbon Building™ design standard. First, we reduce overall electrical demand through metering and energy management tools. Second, we optimize lighting and control systems to eliminate waste and improve efficiency. Third, we incorporate on-site renewable energy to reduce reliance on carbon-intensive grid electricity.

Over the past decade, SMP has supported 134 LEED Certified projects, with another 15+ registered and awaiting certification. Our team is committed to providing solutions that are technically sound, financially responsible, and tailored to each project’s unique retrofit challenges.
